 Adequate Water

It's common knowledge that water should be our beverage of choice and most of us

realize we don't drink enough water.  Drinking water is actually one of the simplest

habits to develop.  Our bodies (muscles, organs, brain, and cells) require water in

order to operate properly.

How much water should you drink?  The recommended daily amount is based on

the following formula:  50% of  your body weight = the number of ounces of water

per day.  For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 75 ounces of water

per day.  If that is going to be a large increase over what you are currently drinking,

start out at about 40% of your body weight and work up to the full amount.

What about the quality of the water that's available?
  The U.S. has one of

the safest water suppliers in the world.  However, national statistics don't tell you

specifically about the quality and safety of the water coming out of your tap.  That's

because drinking water quality varies from place to place, depending on the condition

of the source water from which it is drawn and the treatment it receives.

Where does drinking water come from?
People in large cities frequently drink water that comes from surface water sources,

such as lakes, rivers, and reservoirs.  Sometimes these sources are close to the

community.  Other times, drinking water suppliers get their water from sources

many miles away.  In either case, when you think about where your drinking water

comes from, it's important to consider not just the part of the river or lake that you

can see, but the entire watershed.  The watershed is the land area over which

water flows into the river, lake or reservoir.  In rural areas, people are more likely

to drink ground water that was pumped from a well.  These wells tap into aquifers

--the natural reservoirs under the earth's surface--that may be only a few miles wide,

or may span the borders of many states.  As with surface water, it is important to

remember that activities many miles away may affect the quality of ground water.

What can you do to improve the quality of the water you drink?
At a fraction of the cost of bottled water, Shaklee®  offers a couple of options-
1) BestWater Perfect Pitcher® filter uses a unique filtration system.

You can keep the pitcher of water in your refrigerator and have fresh,

clean water to drink any time you want it.
2) Or, you can have the same technology large municipal water systems use

(reverse osmosis) at the turn of your tap with the economical countertop unit.
  *
Both systems are certified to reduce dissolved lead and over 40 volatile organic compounds that may be in your water.
